The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) announced today that Lisa McClain, Secretary of the Republican Conference of the United States House of Representatives, and Democratic federal Congressman Dan Kildee are leading a bipartisan delegation to visit Taiwan. The delegation, also including Mark Alford, a member of the House Armed Services Committee and a pro-Taiwan advocate, will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen, Vice President and President-elect Lai Ching-te during their visit from April 23rd to 25th.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warmly welcomes the three lawmakers’ visit on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act, showcasing the bipartisan support from the U.S. Congress for Taiwan.

During their stay in Taiwan, the delegation will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen, Vice President and President-elect Lai Ching-te, and attend a banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Wu Zhaoxie. The three members are part of the House Armed Services Committee and the Budget Committee, demonstrating their strong interest in Taiwan issues and continuous support for enhancing Taiwan-U.S. cooperation. They will discuss important topics such as Taiwan-U.S. relations, the situation in the Taiwan Strait, and regional security during their visit.

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed the Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024, including the Indo-Pacific Security Supplemental Appropriations Act providing crucial financial resources for Taiwan’s defense. The visit by the three lawmakers once again underscores the unwavering support of the U.S. Congress for Taiwan and the security in the Taiwan Strait. It will further deepen understanding of Taiwan and contribute to continued promotion of the close Taiwan-U.S. partnership in Congress, safeguarding the rules-based international order and promoting regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
