The 56th US-Korea “Security Consultative Meeting” concluded with a joint communique emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) welcomed and expressed gratitude for this statement.

The United States and South Korea held the security consultation meeting in Washington D.C. on October 30th, Eastern Time, where they reiterated the significance of safeguarding peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) stated today (October 31st) that they welcome and appreciate this declaration and will continue to collaborate with countries such as the US and South Korea that share similar values to ensure peace, stability, and prosperity in the Taiwan Strait and the region.

The US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and the South Korean Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun convened the 56th US-Korea Security Consultative Meeting (SCM) in Washington D.C. on October 30th, Eastern Time. The joint communique issued after the meeting reiterated the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) highlighted that the joint communique once again emphasized the crucial role of safeguarding peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. This stance is also reflected in the “Joint Statement Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the US-Korea Alliance” issued in April last year. The joint statement reaffirmed that maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is an indispensable element for regional security and prosperity, strongly opposing any attempts to unilaterally change the status quo in the Indo-Pacific region.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) expressed its welcome and gratitude for the continuous emphasis on the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait in the joint communique of the US and South Korea for the fourth consecutive SCM. “Peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait have become a high consensus among the global democratic community. Our country will continue to cooperate with countries like the US and South Korea, which share similar values, to jointly ensure peace, stability, and prosperity in the Taiwan Strait and the region.”
