However, they encountered a sudden strong wind and heavy rain, forcing everyone to dine in the midst of rising floodwaters. Some netizens commented humorously on social media, calling it a true “dining in the flowing water” experience.
On the evening of August 23, a netizen posted a video titled “Having a banquet in the rainstorm,” which drew attention on social media platforms.
Photos shared in the comments section of the video by netizens showed that the floodwaters reached knee-deep that night, with people sitting in the water enjoying the wedding banquet. Some netizens joked, “This is the real ‘dining in the flowing water’ experience!” and “Better sit tight, or the chairs might float away.” One netizen even replied, “Exactly, are we afraid the feast will run away?”
However, the video also showed that due to the intensifying rain, people began urgently moving and relocating tables and chairs.
On August 24, a villager who attended the banquet told Jimo News that according to local customs, the host family holds a banquet the day before the wedding to entertain relatives and friends who will help the next day. When the banquet started, it was not raining, but around seven or eight o’clock in the evening, a sudden heavy rainstorm hit, causing many chairs and villagers’ shoes to be washed away. Villagers immediately worked together to evacuate the tables and chairs, and the dishes on the tables were not affected.
However, due to the heavy rain, the banquet had to end early. On the 24th, the weather in the village cleared up, and the wedding proceeded smoothly as scheduled.
According to the Changzhi Meteorological Observatory, a blue warning signal for thunderstorms and strong winds was issued on August 23 at 17:37. Areas affected included Shangdang District mentioned above, as well as eastern parts of Lucheng District, Tunliu District, Lucheng District, Xiangyuan County, Pingshun County, Licheng County, Huguan County, Changzi County, and eastern parts of Wuxiang County, where severe thunderstorms and strong winds with gusts up to force 7 had occurred or were expected to continue for the next six hours.
