UN Secretary-General Banned from Entry by Israel After Not Condemning Iran’s Missile Attack

Israel’s Foreign Minister Katz stated today that UN Secretary-General Guterres’s failure to “clearly” condemn Iran’s missile attacks on Israel has led to a ban on his entry into the country.

On the 1st, Iran launched over 180 ballistic missiles at Israel. Simultaneously, tensions between Iran’s proxy group Hezbollah in Lebanon and Israel escalated. While many missiles were intercepted in the air, some managed to penetrate Israel’s defense system without any reported casualties.

Guterres released a brief statement on the 1st, only referring to the “latest attack in the Middle East” and condemning the “escalating” conflict. Israel had earlier dispatched troops to southern Lebanon on the 1st.

Foreign Minister Katz of Israel expressed that Guterres’s failure to condemn Iran’s actions has made him unwelcome in Israel.

Katz said, “Anyone who cannot clearly condemn Iran’s unforgivable attacks on Israel, as almost all countries around the world have done, is not deserving to set foot on Israeli soil.”

“Regardless of Guterres, Israel will continue to defend its citizens and uphold the dignity of the nation.”
