On July 10th, Czech President Pavel attended the “Ukraine Recovery Conference” held in Rome. During his speech at the conference, he specifically mentioned the recent cooperation agreement signed with Taiwan, highlighting the urgent needs for energy and water supply in Ukraine, praising it as a model of cooperation between like-minded democratic systems.
The Ukraine Recovery Conference took place in Rome on the 10th and 11th. Ukrainian President Zelensky, European Commission President Von der Leyen, German Chancellor Merz, Polish Prime Minister Tusk, and Czech President Pavel were all in attendance, along with approximately 100 official delegations and thousands of businesses.
During the first two plenary sessions, leaders from various countries took turns delivering speeches. President Pavel mentioned in his speech that the Czech Republic is committed to assisting in the reconstruction of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in many of the most affected regions, providing clean drinking water to the Ukrainian people.
President Pavel cited as an example that just a few weeks ago, the Czech Republic signed a milestone trilateral agreement with Taiwan, which will provide clean drinking water to 380,000 residents of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in Ukraine, as well as electricity and heating.
According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China, the Taiwan-Czech cooperation memorandum was signed on June 27th of this year. The mobile water treatment facility construction plan will benefit 380,000 residents of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in Ukraine, while the cogeneration energy system construction plan will benefit approximately 60,000 residents of Kharkiv Oblast.
President Pavel stated during the conference that the Taiwan-Czech cooperation model demonstrates how like-minded democratic countries can work together to extend a helping hand to those in greatest need.
In his speech, President Pavel emphasized that Zelensky mentioned the need for a new “Marshall Plan” for the reconstruction of Ukraine. He believes that this is not just symbolic rhetoric; to rebuild Ukraine, a new framework combining the public and private sectors, institutional reform, and vision is necessary.
President Pavel mentioned that a broader political alliance is needed, uniting the European Union with democratic countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and Japan, and establishing a transparent digital investment platform to encourage private funding to drive investment in the reconstruction of Ukraine. The goal of Ukraine’s reconstruction must move towards integration into the EU single market.
