Typhoon “Kajiki” is approaching Vietnam with great force. The military is on standby, ready to provide assistance at any time. In addition, Vietnamese authorities have ordered the evacuation of over 586,000 people before the typhoon’s arrival. Meanwhile, the city of Sanya in Hainan Province, China, has also announced measures such as suspending work and transportation in preparation for this powerful typhoon.
Residents of the provinces of Thanh Hoa, Quang Tri, Hue, and Da Nang in central Vietnam have been ordered to leave their homes.
According to a report from the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Typhoon “Kajiki” is of extreme intensity, moving rapidly, and directly affecting coastal provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri.
In response to the typhoon’s development, seven coastal provinces and cities including Ningping, Thanh Hoa, and Quang Tri have implemented strict measures to prevent ships from going out to sea. Residents of Thanh Hoa, Quang Tri, Hue, and Da Nang have been evacuated as part of the preparedness plans, with approximately 152,400 households totaling 586,800 individuals being relocated. The typhoon is expected to make landfall in these provinces on Monday morning.
According to the Vietnam News Agency, the Vietnamese military has issued emergency orders to mobilize forces to deal with the typhoon. The military is prepared to deploy troops and drones to conduct surveys in areas at risk of landslides.
The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control in Vietnam announced that the Ministry of National Defense has deployed over 346,000 officers and soldiers and mobilized various equipment including 8,200 units (comprising 5,061 vehicles, 216 ships, 2,295 small boats and speedboats, 623 special vehicles, and 5 aircraft) to prepare for the typhoon.
Vietnam Airlines has canceled at least 22 round-trip flights to central cities on Sunday and Monday. Vietjet Aviation has stated that they are canceling or rescheduling flights but did not provide specific details.
Hainan Province in China is also preparing for Typhoon “Kajiki.” According to information released by the China Meteorological Administration at 00:15 on August 25th, the powerful typhoon is located at approximately 18.0 degrees north latitude and 108.6 degrees east longitude, about 100 kilometers south-west of Sanya City in Hainan Province. With maximum wind speeds reaching 14 on the Beaufort scale, equivalent to 45 meters per second or about 162 kilometers per hour.
The China Meteorological Administration earlier predicted that after passing through the coastal areas from Sanya to Ledong in Hainan, Typhoon “Kajiki” will gradually move towards the central and northern coastal areas of Vietnam.
Sanya had previously announced the implementation of the “Five Stops and One Close” measures for the entire city on August 24th, including suspending classes, work, business operations, transportation, and flights, and closing tourist attractions.
The weather forecast also predicts that from 8 p.m. on August 24th to 8 p.m. on August 25th, parts of Hainan Island, southwestern Guangdong, and southwestern Guangxi will experience heavy to torrential rains, with the central and southern parts of Hainan Island likely to see heavy rainfall and locally intense rainfall ranging from 250 to 320 millimeters.
