China’s Central Meteorological Observatory released information today at 9 a.m., stating that Typhoon Mina (translated as Mita in Taiwan) has slightly strengthened in intensity. It is forecasted to make landfall along the coast between Shantou and Shenzhen in Guangdong later tonight.
The Central Weather Bureau of Taiwan reported that at 8 a.m. on the 19th, the center of Typhoon Mita was located at 22.0 degrees north latitude and 115.7 degrees east longitude, moving northwest at a speed of 9 kilometers per hour. The central pressure was 998 hPa, with a maximum wind speed near the center of 18 meters per second and maximum instantaneous wind gusts of 25 meters per second. The radius of strong winds extending outward from the center is 100 kilometers on average (110 kilometers on the northwest side, 110 kilometers on the northeast side, 60 kilometers on the southwest side, and 110 kilometers on the southeast side).
Wu Derong, an associate professor from the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at Central University, pointed out in the “Revelation Classroom” column of the Meteorological Application Promotion Foundation that Tropical Storm Mita is expected to make landfall between Shantou and Hong Kong and gradually turn towards the west, posing no threat to Taiwan.
The Chinese Central Meteorological Observatory issued a typhoon alert at 9 a.m. today, indicating that Typhoon Mina is approximately 65 kilometers southeast of Shantou, Guangdong, moving in a west-northwest direction at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour with slightly increased intensity.
At 10 a.m., the Central Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow typhoon warning: Typhoon Mina, the 17th typhoon of the year, was located about 65 kilometers southeast of Shantou City, Guangdong Province on the near-sea surface. It is expected to continue moving in a west-northwest direction at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour with either maintaining or slightly increasing intensity.
