Typhoon Capricorn lands causing casualties, Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Commission and Straits Exchange Foundation express concern.

In response to the devastation caused by the powerful typhoon Moje in China, the Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China (Taiwan) expressed condolences and concern, hoping for the smooth progress of disaster relief efforts and the speedy recovery of affected people to normal life. The Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) of Taiwan also extended its sincere sympathy and condolences.

Typhoon Moje made landfall in Wenchang, Hainan Province, China on the afternoon of the 6th and then swept through Guangdong, causing severe damage. According to official Chinese media, as of 3 p.m. on the 7th, 1.227 million people in Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hainan were affected by the typhoon to varying degrees. Typhoon Moje resulted in 4 deaths and 95 injuries in Hainan.

The Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan released a press release stating that Typhoon Moje made landfall in the coastal town of Wengtian in Wenchang City, Hainan Province, China around 4 p.m. on the 6th, causing severe damage and ongoing disaster in the area.

The Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan expressed sincere condolences and concern to the Mainland Chinese people affected by the disaster, and hoped that the relevant disaster relief work would proceed smoothly so that the victims could soon be freed from the disaster and rebuild their homes. The government will continue to closely monitor the latest disaster information and actual situation on the ground and provide timely information for the public to reference. The SEF of Taiwan also issued a press release stating that the southern region of Mainland China has been hit by Typhoon Moje, with continuous heavy rain causing widespread power outages, communication disruptions, damage to crops, and collapses of some houses. They have sent a letter to the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) on the 8th expressing sincere concern and condolences. The SEF hopes that the people in the disaster-affected areas can soon return to normal life.

The SEF pointed out that the southern regions of Mainland China, including Hainan, Guangdong, and Guangxi, have been severely affected by Typhoon Moje. Continuous heavy rain has caused serious damage and casualties. They have expressed concern to ARATS for the people in the affected areas and have been in touch with various Taiwanese business associations to understand the situation of Taiwanese businessmen in the area and provide necessary assistance.
