Typhoon “Bolovi” Impact: Sanya Ceases Operations for Work, Transport, and Flights

According to the official WeChat account “Sanya Release”, Sanya will experience severe weather conditions such as strong winds and heavy rain due to the impact of Typhoon “Bolo Yi” on the 20th this year. The maximum wind speed near the center is expected to reach level 12 (35 meters/second). Sanya City activated a level II flood and wind emergency response at 9:00 p.m. on the 27th and issued a notice for school closures, work stoppages, transportation suspensions, flight suspensions, as well as closures of scenic spots.

As a result of the typhoon and heavy rain, the Sanya Education Bureau announced that in order to ensure the safety of all primary and secondary school students in the city, boarding school students should not return on the evening of September 27. All primary and secondary schools, kindergartens, and extracurricular training institutions in the city will be closed for the entire day on the 28th. Parents are advised to supervise students during the typhoon, prohibit them from going out, and further notice will be given for the resumption of classes.

Typhoon “Bolo Yi” also had an impact on operations at Sanya Phoenix International Airport. The airport decided to suspend all flights from 9:00 a.m. on September 28, with flight operations expected to resume at 9:00 p.m. on the same day. It is warned that during the typhoon, Sanya will experience severe weather conditions, which may affect flight operations at the airport, potentially leading to flight delays or cancellations. On the 28th, all inbound and outbound island trains in Hainan Province were suspended, along with the suspension of the Hainan Island high-speed rail line and the Sanya tourist train. On the 29th, the Z8007, Z111, K511, and Z501 inbound trains, as well as the Z386 outbound train from Haikou, were suspended.

The 2025 Sanya Youth Activity scheduled to be held at the Guo Yao Zhongfu Duty-Free Store outdoor square on September 28 has been officially canceled by the Health Bureau, and residents and tourists are advised to pay attention to safety and avoid going to the event venue.

Starting from 8:00 a.m. on September 28, all main libraries, branch libraries, and urban bookstores in Sanya will temporarily close. The 24-hour self-service library services will also be suspended simultaneously. According to the Central Meteorological Bureau forecast, the impact of Typhoon “Bolo Yi” this year will pass south of Hainan Island on the daytime of September 28, moving in a northwest direction at a speed of 25 to 30 kilometers per hour, with a likelihood of further intensification.

At 10:00 a.m. on September 28, the Central Meteorological Bureau continued to issue a typhoon yellow warning from 8:00 a.m. on the 28th to 8:00 a.m. on the 29th, with strong winds of 6 to 8 levels and gusts of 9 to 10 levels expected in most parts of the South China Sea, the Beibu Gulf, the Qiongzhou Strait, the central and western coastal areas of Guangdong, Hainan Island and its coast, and the coastal areas of western Guangxi. In some areas, winds could reach 9 to 10 levels with gusts of 11 to 12 levels, and near the center of the typhoon, winds could reach 11 to 13 levels with gusts of 14 to 15 levels.

Furthermore, the Central Meteorological Bureau issued a heavy rain yellow warning at 6:00 a.m. on September 28, with heavy to torrential rains expected from 8:00 a.m. on the 28th to 8:00 a.m. on the 29th in parts of eastern and southern Sichuan, southern Shaanxi, western Henan, northwestern Hubei, western and northern Chongqing, northern Yunnan, southern Guangxi, southwestern Guangdong, and central and southern Hainan Island, where local areas in southeastern Hainan Island could see rainfall of 250 to 280 millimeters.
