Two taxis in Guiyang collided with passengers in a bid to compete for business.

In recent years, the Chinese economy has been deteriorating steadily, leading to a lot of layoffs. Many people have been forced to work as delivery drivers or taxi drivers. On April 24th, a netizen posted a video claiming that two taxis in a certain area collided while racing to pick up passengers, causing one of the passengers to be thrown into the air.

The viral video depicted a scene where a man was standing at the roadside late at night, trying to hail a taxi. Suddenly, two taxis almost simultaneously swerved to the right towards the man. One of the taxis directly hit the man, causing him to be thrown into the air. Luckily, the man reacted quickly and managed to press his hand against the taxi’s front while leveraging to bounce backward. Although he was not directly hit by the car, the impact caused him to stumble and tumble several times on the ground before he got up, looking dazed as he walked towards the taxi that hit him.

According to a report by Jimo News, the accident occurred at the intersection of Guanshan East Road and Changling North Road near Shuboda Avenue in Guanshanhu District, Guiyang City.

On the 25th, officials from the Guiyang City Transportation Bureau responded, stating that the accident happened on April 22nd, and one of the taxi companies involved is located in Baiyun District. Staff from the Baiyun District Transportation Bureau stated that the incident is currently under investigation.

The moment when the man waving for a taxi was hit by the taxi was captured by the surveillance camera of another car parked on the roadside and was shared online.

Netizens commented humorously on the incident, saying, “Choosing between picking up a passenger or hitting a passenger! So that trip cost 120 yuan. Jumping that far in one leap is impressive. He was really lucky – if it were me, I would’ve been done for. Look at how intense the competition is for business now. It’s getting a bit extreme – what is happening to society?”

“This vicious cycle! There’s no lower limit… only no limit at all… The economy is really in a bad state. They are fighting desperately for business. Do you remember when drivers used to ignore passengers and not stop? Taxis in the whole country are all the same.”

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by individuals trying to make a living in the struggling Chinese economy, where competition for work is fierce and safety concerns are ever-present.
