Two State Legislators in Minnesota Shot by Gunman Posing as Police

According to local media reports on Saturday, June 14, state Senator John Hoffman and state Representative Melissa Hortman, both from Minnesota, were shot at their respective homes.

Reported first by local media outlet KSTP, the two legislators were shot on Friday night, with sources stating that the suspect posed as a police officer during the attack.

Authorities are currently searching for a suspect involved in multiple targeted shooting incidents. The suspect is armed and considered dangerous. Described as a white male with brown hair, wearing a blue shirt and blue pants with a black bulletproof vest, he may be impersonating law enforcement.

Residents are advised not to approach the suspect if spotted.

The current conditions of the two legislators and whether there are other victims remain unclear at this time, but reports indicate that multiple individuals were harmed at both locations.

Senator Hoffman’s residence is in Champlin, while Representative Hortman’s home is in Brooklyn Park.

Subsequently, Fox 9 reported that it had confirmed both state lawmakers and their spouses were shot on Friday night.

Following several shooting incidents, the Brooklyn Park Police Department issued a shelter-in-place alert at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday. The suspect in the shooting cases may be impersonating law enforcement; residents are urged to avoid contact.

Authorities also instructed residents in the area not to open their doors to law enforcement unless two police officers are present simultaneously or to call 911 to verify the identity of the officers.

Fox 9 quoted sources indicating that there may have been two suspects involved in the shooting incidents, with one suspect detained after a police shooting incident in Brooklyn Park.

Residents were advised not to approach the other suspect. If spotted, please call 911.

Governor Tim Waltz stated on social media that he has activated the state’s Emergency Operations Center and will provide “full resource support” to the law enforcement agencies in both locations.
