Two Polish boys found a drift bottle at the seaside, which contained a love letter written by a girl to a boy dating back to 1959. The contents of this intriguing love letter have stirred curiosity – what could it possibly say?
According to a report by Polish Public Television (TVP) on May 20th, the two boys, Eryk and Kuba, both 10-year-old elementary school students, discovered a glass bottle with a note inside while walking on a WWII defense structure near Stogi Beach in Gdańsk.
The faded note, signed by a girl named Rysia, was written to a boy named Bunny. In her letter, Rysia expressed her love and longing for Bunny while attending a summer course near the southern Polish city of Tarnów.
Rysia mentioned in the letter about the presence of many motorcycles in the area that would remind her of Bunny with each roar. She could see the park through the window and often indulged in daydreams during her spare time outside the classes from 9 am to 2 pm.
She described herself as reserved and quiet, preferring solitude over mingling with others. Rysia confessed her selfishness in writing solely about herself but couldn’t help thinking about Bunny.
Her thoughts drifted to the beach, warm weather, and the countdown to returning home during her long days and sleepless nights at the camp.
Eryk and Kuba have reached out to a museum in Tarnów in hopes of finding the person who wrote the letter all those years ago.
The discovery of this letter has sparked curiosity and speculation online among netizens. Beyond speculating about the relationship dynamics in the letter, there are calls to locate the protagonist, Rysia.
Some speculate that Rysia may have been from Gdańsk, separated from Bunny due to studying in Tarnów. Bunny, upon reading the letter on the beach, placed it in the bottle and hid it in the bunker.
Others suggest finding Rysia and returning the letter to her. “If she is still alive and receives a letter from over 60 years ago, it would be a fantastic story.”
Some remarked, “This is an interesting tale – these individuals might still be alive. Perhaps someone knows about their grandparents’ history or has heard of a youthful love story that aligns with this one.”
