On June 6th, Jere, former Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress of the Chinese Communist Party, passed away in Beijing. This is the second vice-national-level official of the CCP to pass away this week.
According to the report from CCTV, Jere, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Tenth National People’s Congress, passed away in Beijing at 2:15 a.m. on June 6th at the age of 87.
Public records show that Jere had long served in Tibet, holding positions such as Deputy Secretary of the Tibet Party Committee, Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference, and Director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress. In March 2003, Jere was elected as Vice Chairman of the Tenth National People’s Congress of the CCP, becoming a vice-national-level leader of the CCP. He stepped down in March 2008.
Just four days before Jere’s passing, another vice-national-level official, Xu Qiliang, former Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the CCP, also passed away in Beijing on June 2nd at the age of 75. However, the official cause of death for both individuals has not been publicly disclosed.
