Turkish Man Breaks World Record by Hitting Target 56 Meters Away with Thrown Axe

A man in Turkey has broken the Guinness World Record by throwing an axe and hitting a target 56 meters away. According to the Guinness World Records website report on January 29th, the Turkish man named Osman Gürcü successfully hit the target at a distance of 56 meters with his thrown axe, surpassing the previous record of 43.58 meters set by Jesse Rood from the United States, making him the new record holder.

How long is 56 meters? It’s longer than the length of an Olympic swimming pool, which is 50 meters.

Gürcü, a private security guard and father of two daughters, expressed his disbelief at breaking the record, stating, “Breaking the record is an incredible feeling because the distance is far, and you have to be able to throw far and have the axe stick to the target board.”

He mentioned that during practice, he hit the target board many times but couldn’t get the axe to stay in place. He didn’t give up and kept trying until he succeeded.

Apart from this record, the 43-year-old Gürcü also holds multiple other Guinness World Records. He often checks the Guinness World Records website and social media to see what other records he can challenge himself with.

Gürcü mentioned that throwing things has been a talent of his since childhood, which explains why many of the Guinness World Records he has broken are related to throwing, such as blindfolded basketball shots. Last year, he set a new Guinness World Record for a blindfolded hook shot from 20 meters away.

He stated that he plans to break more records in the future, saying, “Being a record holder makes me very happy.”
