Trump: Will not run in 2028 if defeated in November

Former US President Trump said in an interview aired on Sunday that he will not run for president again in 2028 if he loses in the upcoming November election.

During a Sunday morning television program “Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson,” hosted by nonpartisan investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson, Trump stated that he has no intention of running again if he loses to the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election.

When asked if he would consider running again in four years if he fails in a third attempt, the 78-year-old former president told Attkisson, “No, I won’t. I think that’s it. I really can’t see that happening. Hopefully, we will succeed.”

Trump has been the Republican nominee in the last three presidential elections. After losing the White House in the 2020 election, Trump is facing off against his old opponent, current President Biden, in the 2024 election. However, Biden withdrew in late July and was replaced by Vice President Harris, making the presidential race even more intense between the two parties.

Both candidates are currently fiercely competing in key battleground states, organizing a series of campaign events in those states.

The interview on Sunday took place at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. When asked if the past four years of rest had helped him regroup and find trusted allies, Trump told Attkisson, “If I… keep at it, it’ll be easier.”

When asked about billionaire Elon Musk, former Hawaii Democratic Congressman Tulsi Gabbard, who is now an independent, and former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. potentially serving in Trump’s second administration, the former president said Kennedy “will do well in health and environmental issues”, Gabbard is a “sensible person”, and “Elon is just Elon”.

Regarding Musk, he pointed out that the tech giant “may have some other things to do.” He admitted that they have “a bit” of a disagreement on electric cars, but added, “From the perspective that not every car should be an electric car, he agrees with me.”

Trump also mentioned that it’s too early to discuss any cabinet positions in the White House as it will only be known in November whether he can win the election.
