On July 28, 2025, US President Trump announced that the United States is prepared to collaborate with other countries and organizations to establish food centers in the Gaza Strip. These food centers aim to provide food aid to the Palestinian people who are facing hardships, in response to famine and to alleviate the current humanitarian crisis.
During a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at his golf course in Turnberry, Scotland on Monday, Trump expressed that the US will take measures to establish “food centers” in Gaza. Although he didn’t provide specific details on whether the US would directly engage in ground operations in Gaza or if third-party organizations would offer assistance, he mentioned that this would be a joint effort undertaken in collaboration with other countries.
“We will be working with some very talented people and will provide funding… Other countries will also join us,” Trump told reporters present at the meeting.
He also remarked to Starmer, “I know your country will be joining us,” and informed those in attendance, “We have had all European countries joining us, with other countries reaching out to offer help. Therefore, we will establish food centers where people can walk in without boundaries. We won’t be putting up fences.”
Trump’s statement comes at a time when the famine issue in Gaza has become a new focus of international attention. Previously, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had denied the existence of famine in Gaza. But when Trump was asked about agreeing with this statement before his meeting with Starmer on Monday, he told reporters, “Those children look very hungry from the TV footage.”
“This is a real hunger problem, I’ve seen it, you can’t fake that,” Trump said. “We have to get these kids fed.”
He further added, “We will be engaging more actively in this.”
Recent news reports and circulated visuals depict many people in Gaza, including children, facing starvation due to the lack of international humanitarian aid supplies.
According to reports from the Gaza Health Ministry controlled by Hamas over the past weekend, in recent weeks, the number of deaths in Gaza due to malnutrition and starvation has reached 133, including 87 children.
Negotiations for a prisoner exchange and ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas have once again hit a deadlock. Trump and Netanyahu’s recent statements indicate that they seem to have given up on negotiations with Hamas, stating that the Palestinian extremist organization does not seem willing to reach an agreement.
