After a heated public feud between the US President Donald Trump and the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, signs of reconciliation seemed to emerge on Monday, June 9th. Musk posted a red heart emoji on the X platform that evening in response to Trump’s well wishes in a video. The video was released by conservative internet personality ALX, in which Trump expressed, “We used to have a good relationship, I wish him all the best – very smoothly.”
The ongoing “billionaire showdown” that has been sparking controversy for days seems to be gradually cooling off, as reported by Fox News earlier. Musk shared Trump’s tough stance on the chaos of anti-immigrant and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protests in Los Angeles that day, indicating both sides share a consensus on security issues.
In his post, Trump criticized California Governor Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, saying, “They should apologize to the citizens for their poor governance in Los Angeles. These are not protesters, they are troublemakers and insurgents.” Musk shared this post and also reposted Vice President JD Vance’s post on the same incident.
Vance wrote, “Decisive leadership is needed now; the President will not tolerate rioting and violence.”
Furthermore, Musk humorously posted on the X platform on Sunday, “The character assassination against me is outrageous – especially coming from myself!” It is widely believed that this was his humorous response reflecting on his heated exchange with Trump.
The clash between the two began with Trump’s push for the “Big and Beautiful Comprehensive Bill.” Last Thursday, Trump expressed being “very disappointed” with Musk’s criticism at the White House, stating Musk had no objections to the bill until the electric vehicle subsidy was removed.
Musk refuted this claim on X. Following this, Trump posted multiple statements on “Truth Social,” accusing Musk of being “out of control” and reiterating that the bill would cut $1.6 trillion in spending, bringing the largest tax cut in history.
“If the bill is not passed, the US will face a 68% tax rate increase. I am not here to create chaos, I am here to solve it,” Trump wrote, “This will put America back on the path of greatness and make America great again.”
In retaliation, Musk claimed, “Without my help,” Trump could not have won the 2024 election and even suggested impeaching Trump, with Vice President Vance taking over. He also initiated a poll on the X platform to discuss the establishment of a new political party representing the “80% of the American middle voters.”
In response to this, Trump stated to Fox News last week, “I have no intention of speaking with Elon. He has completely lost control.” He also said he is not worried about Musk forming a new party because he currently has solid support in both Congress and the polls.
