Former President Trump announced on Friday that he plans to return to Butler, Pennsylvania to attend a campaign rally, nearly two weeks after surviving an assassination attempt. The Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential election made the announcement on his social media platform, Truth Social, saying, “I will return to Butler, Pennsylvania to participate in a grand and wonderful rally to honor the spirit of our beloved firefighter, Corey, and the brave patriots who were injured two weeks ago. It will be a day of fighting, fighting, fighting! Stay tuned for details.”
Trump’s post came less than two weeks after he was attacked during a campaign rally in Butler. On July 13th, a 20-year-old gunman opened fire shortly after Trump took the stage, resulting in the former president being shot through the upper right ear, former Pennsylvania firefighter Corey Comperatore being fatally shot, and two other attendees being seriously injured.
The gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot and killed by Secret Service snipers on the spot. During the attack, he fired 8 shots in less than 6 seconds.
Following the incident, Trump and his allies launched an online fundraising campaign for the victims and their families, managing to raise over six million dollars within days.
It is not yet clear when or where Trump’s new rally in Butler will take place. The Secret Service has been under review since the previous Butler rally and has urged Trump and his campaign team not to hold outdoor events.
Since the shooting incident, Trump has held several campaign events, including one in Michigan and North Carolina. He has scheduled another for this Saturday in Minnesota and one in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania next week. This will be his first return to Pennsylvania, a key battleground state, for a campaign event since the assassination attempt.
