On Sunday, September 15, Republican presidential candidate Trump (Donald Trump) seemed to have once again encountered an “assassination attempt” incident, with a suspect already in custody. Democratic presidential candidate and Vice President Harris expressed her relief that Trump was safe and emphasized that “violence has no place in America.”
Harris wrote on the social media platform X: “I have received reports of the shooting incident involving former President Trump, which occurred near Trump’s property in Florida. I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America.”
Harris’s running mate, Mr. Waltz, also emphasized that violence should not be the essence of America as a nation.
In his statement on the X platform, he wrote, “Gwen and I are relieved to hear that Donald Trump is safe. Violence has no place in our country. This is not the essence of who we are as a nation.”
The White House stated in a press release that President Biden has also been briefed on Trump’s peril.
Biden said: “I am relieved that former President is safe. Law enforcement is actively investigating the incident and gathering more details.”
“As I have said many times before, our country does not tolerate political violence or any form of violence. I have instructed my team to continue to ensure that the Secret Service has all necessary resources, capabilities, and protection measures to ensure the safety of the former president.”
According to the Associated Press citing law enforcement officials, a man wielding an AK-style rifle pointed the gun at Trump’s golf club, prompting the U.S. Secret Service to open fire while Trump was playing golf.
The man then dropped the weapon and fled the scene in an SUV. Eventually, he was arrested in a neighboring county.
In July of this year, Trump was attacked at a campaign rally, with a bullet hitting his ear.
A spokesperson for Trump’s campaign team, Steven Cheung, said in a statement, “There was a shooting incident near President Trump, but he is safe. There are no more details at this time.”
The incident took place near the Trump International Golf Course in Palm Beach County, Florida, where Trump was playing golf on Sunday.
In a fundraising email later on Sunday evening, Trump stated that he was safe.
The email read: “There were sounds of gunfire near me, but before rumors started spiraling out of control, I wanted to tell you first: I am safe and well!”
Trump said in the email, “Nothing can slow me down. I will never back down! I will always love and support all of you.”
