Former President Trump’s senior assistant stated on Saturday (July 13) that despite being shot earlier in the day, he will still attend the Republican National Convention (RNC) scheduled to take place in Wisconsin next week.
Trump’s campaign team, in a joint statement with the RNC, reported that as previously announced, Trump is “doing well.”
“President Trump is doing well, as reported earlier tonight, and appreciates the swift actions of law enforcement and emergency personnel,” said Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles, senior advisors to Trump’s campaign team, in the joint statement with the RNC, adding that the party convention in Milwaukee this week will “continue as planned.”
The convention is set to begin next Monday, with Trump scheduled to formally accept the party’s nomination and deliver a speech next Thursday evening.
“President Trump looks forward to being in Milwaukee with everyone, as we will nominate him to be the 47th President of the United States at the convention,” the joint statement said. “As our party’s nominee, President Trump will continue to share his vision to make America great again.”
Earlier on Saturday, Trump was shot in the ear during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. As Secret Service agents assisted Trump, blood was seen coming from his ear.
As law enforcement escorted him away, the former president raised his fist and shouted to the crowd, “Fight! Fight!”
Approximately two and a half hours after the shooting incident, Trump posted on “Truth Social,” thanking law enforcement, expressing condolences for the deceased attendees, and confirming that he was shot in the ear.
According to Bloomberg, Trump was shot in the right ear and was discharged from the hospital later on Saturday evening.
US President Biden condemned the shooting incident and urged others to do the same.
The identity and motive of the gunman remain unknown.
