Trump arrives in Milwaukee to attend the Republican National Convention

Former US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he would be heading to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to attend the Republican National Convention. This decision comes after an incident where Trump was attacked during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, resulting in an injury to his right ear. It is expected that Trump will officially receive the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election at the convention starting on Monday.

In a post on “Truth Social,” Trump stated, “I had intended to postpone my trip to Wisconsin and attending the Republican National Convention by two days, but I have just decided that I cannot let ‘gunmen’ or potential assassins forcibly change my schedule or do anything else. Therefore, I will proceed to Milwaukee as planned.” He mentioned that he traveled to Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon.

Trump’s aide, Dan Scavino, posted on X stating that Trump is doing well and is looking forward to the Republican convention in Milwaukee. “He is very grateful for all your prayers, support, and blessings,” Scavino wrote. “Flying to great Wisconsin!” He also attached a video of the Trump motorcade at the airport.

Scavino further wrote, echoing Trump’s words from earlier in the day, “At this moment, we need to be more united than ever, show our true American character, stay strong and resilient, and not let evil prevail. I sincerely love our country, love all of you, and look forward to speaking to our great nation this week in Wisconsin.”

As of the time of publication, Trump has already arrived in Milwaukee.

The FBI has classified the shooting incident as an attempted assassination, where a 20-year-old man from Pennsylvania carried an AR-15 rifle and shot at Trump from a rooftop, resulting in 1 death and 3 injuries.

US President Biden stated on Sunday that he has ordered an investigation into the man’s background. The FBI is currently investigating whether the assassination attempt was a “potential” act of domestic terrorism.

The Secret Service mentioned on Sunday that there are no plans to enhance security measures for the Republican National Convention. “We will proceed according to the original plan, and we have confidence in these plans,” said Secret Service convention coordinator Audrey Gibson-Cicchino at a press conference in Milwaukee. “This has been an 18-month process involving all levels of government, and they have all contributed to the operational security plan for this event.”

US federal officials have mentioned that there are no signs of increased danger following the shooting incident at the Republican National Convention.

On Sunday, FBI Milwaukee Field Office Special Agent Michael Hensle stated, “Currently, there are no known specific threats against the Republican National Convention or anyone attending the convention.”

The Republican National Convention is scheduled to take place in Milwaukee from July 15th to 18th, where aside from confirming former President Trump as the presidential candidate, the party platform will also be passed and announced.
