Trump appoints Steven Zhang as White House Communications Director.

The Trump transition team announced on Friday (November 15) that the President-elect has selected Steven Cheung, who served as communications director during the campaign, to be the White House Communications Director.

The transition team also revealed that Sergio Gor will serve as the Director of the Presidential Personnel Office.

In a statement, Trump said, “Since my first presidential campaign in 2016, Steven Cheung and Sergio Gor have been trusted advisors who continue to uphold the principles of America First.”

Steven Cheung, a key member of Trump’s campaign team, has been relatively low-profile during the campaign but has delivered sharp statements on behalf of Trump, sometimes surprising people.

According to Politico, 42-year-old Steven Cheung grew up in California to Chinese immigrant parents. He has worked for various Republican campaigns and joined Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016. After Trump’s victory, he went to the White House to serve as Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Communications Director. During the 2020 election, he assisted Trump in his re-election campaign and later provided consulting for several high-profile Republican campaigns. In the most recent election cycle, he joined Trump’s 2024 campaign team.

Sergio Gor, previously reported by Semafor, will lead the President’s Personnel Office, responsible for assisting Trump in recruiting, vetting, and nominating thousands of political appointees for the federal government.

Donald Trump Jr. responded to the news on the social media platform X, saying, “Great news! Sergio Gor will be fantastic.”
