The White House announced on Wednesday afternoon that several healthcare organizations and over sixty high-tech companies have committed to building the “next-generation digital health ecosystem.” This initiative aims to streamline information sharing between patients and healthcare service providers, and enhance applications and tools to provide patients with information and resources.
President Trump stated at the “Make Healthcare Technology Great Again” event held in the East Room of the White House on Wednesday afternoon: “For decades, the American healthcare network has been in need of high-tech upgrades, and that is what we are doing. Existing systems are often slow, costly, and incompatible with each other. But today’s announcement marks an important step towards bringing healthcare into the digital age, which is absolutely crucial. We must do this. Moving from the era of clipboards and fax machines to a convenient, profitable, and fast new era, honestly, this will improve people’s health.”
U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., said: “For decades, bureaucrats and special interest groups have obscured medical data, hindering patients from taking control of their own health. Today, all of this will come to an end. We are breaking down digital barriers, empowering patients, and rebuilding a healthcare system that serves the people. This is the beginning of making America healthy again.”
This project has two main goals. First, to create a secure network for sharing medical information. Second, to develop digital tools that make it easier for people to access, share health information, and make decisions based on their health data.
The new healthcare technology program will also include the development of personalized tools to help patients better control their health information and make wiser decisions. Kennedy stated: “It empowers (patients) with a sense of responsibility and enables them to measure the effects of interventions: if they change their eating habits, if they increase their exercise, it can show you how many steps you’ve taken today, it can tell you if your blood sugar is soaring, all this information will now be available to American citizens.”
Representatives from companies such as Apple, Google, Samsung, Amazon, and Oracle attended the White House event, with over sixty high-tech companies voluntarily sharing information with each other. Several major tech companies, including Amazon, Anthropic, Apple, Google, and OpenAI, have signed onto the initiative.
President Trump announced this program alongside Secretary Kennedy of the Department of Health and Human Services and Dr. Mehmet Oz, Director of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
David Sacks, chairman of the President’s Technology Advisory Board, and Amy Gleason, strategy advisor at the Department of Health and Human Services and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, as well as DOGE lead, also attended the event.
Trump said that this program will ultimately improve the health of Americans. However, some are concerned about the potential leakage of personal sensitive medical records.
