Trump and Gua Jinli’s Supporters Have Big Differences, But Consensus in Three Areas

The fierce battle between the two major parties in the United States election, Democratic presidential candidate He Jinli and Republican competitor Trump are actively campaigning to win more voters. A poll shows that although supporters of the two candidates differ greatly on many issues, they at least have a basic consensus in three areas.

Additionally, another poll shows that inflation is considered the most serious issue by the majority of Americans.

A new report from the Pew Research Center shows that there are disagreements between the Democrats and Republicans on issues including gun ownership and gender identity. The report includes two surveys on 4,527 registered voters’ political values and preferences.

The same report shows that the majority of supporters of He Jinli and Trump have at least basic agreement in the following three areas of opinion.

While supporters of He Jinli and Trump have significant differences on many cultural issues in the United States, both have a majority of supporters who believe that “religion should be separate from government politics.” Specifically, 87% of He Jinli supporters and 55% of Trump supporters agree with this view.

Social security is another area where supporters of both parties reach a basic consensus. Both He Jinli and Trump have over half of their supporters believing that “social security should not be cut in any way.” Specifically, 83% of He Jinli supporters and 77% of Trump supporters support this view.

The results of this poll align with the statements of He Jinli and Trump on this issue. He Jinli had previously stated on the social media platform X that the Biden administration will “protect and strengthen social security and federal health insurance.”

Trump’s campaign website manifesto for 2024 states that he will “strive to protect and maintain social security and federal health insurance, with no cuts, including no change to retirement age.”

The majority of He Jinli and Trump supporters have a basic consensus on the role of the United States as a global military superpower. Among respondents, 76% of Trump supporters and 55% of He Jinli supporters agree that U.S. policy should strive to maintain the unique role of the United States as the world’s sole military superpower.

According to another poll released by YouGov on August 29th, inflation has become the most concerning issue among the 32 issues surveyed, with as many as 67% of Americans considering inflation a “very serious” issue, tied with homelessness and debt problems as the second most serious issues, each with 59% of Americans considering these two issues “very serious.”

The poll also shows that the percentage of Americans who see anti-Semitism as a very serious issue has increased in 2024 compared to 2022 and 2023. The proportions for 2022 and 2023 were 23% and in 2024 it increased to 31%.

YouGov’s poll also reveals that illegal immigration is one of the most important issues during the 2024 presidential election cycle, with over half (53%) of respondents considering it a “very serious” issue. In comparison, the rate was 49% in 2023 and 43% in 2022.

Regarding the most pressing domestic issues, voters of the two major parties have different perspectives. The survey shows that Democrats consider gun violence the most serious issue, with 81% of surveyed Democrats holding this view, followed by climate change (75%), poverty (70%), homelessness (70%), and lack of access to healthcare (66%). For Republicans, inflation is the primary issue, at 89%; illegal immigration follows at 86%, then debt issues (66%), and drug addiction issues (66%).
