In the Waterberg National Park in Namibia, Africa, tourists witnessed a group of lions attacking a crocodile that had crawled onto land. The question arose: would the lion, known as the king of the beasts, prevail in this battle, or would the crocodile, reigning in the water, emerge victorious?
According to a report from “Latest Sightings” website, lions are famous for their quick temper and ferocious nature, able to hunt various animals on land, but facing off against a crocodile is a whole different story.
An adult crocodile can reach a length of 7 meters (22.9 feet) and weigh up to 1 ton (2,204 pounds). In comparison, an adult lion weighs only 270 kilograms (595 pounds), clearly at a disadvantage.
Both of these animals are renowned for their excellent hunting tactics. However, the crocodile possesses a powerful bite force, capable of inflicting serious harm on a lion given the chance. The lions knew that joining forces against the crocodile would be more advantageous.
During a visit to the Waterberg National Park in the colder winter weather, 15-year-old student Connor Dawes and his family witnessed the astonishing sight of lions battling a crocodile, even leaving experienced park rangers surprised.
Dawes mentioned that they spotted a crocodile sunbathing on the land in a wildlife conservation area. A male lion with several young lions walked along a muddy road and as they approached the sunbathing crocodile, the male lion suddenly launched an attack on the unsuspecting crocodile.
Dawes remarked, “I was shocked that the lions would even think to challenge the crocodile.” He witnessed the male lion grab the crocodile’s hind leg, with the rest of the lions pouncing.
Despite being outnumbered, the crocodile did not back down. It fiercely twisted and thrashed, attempting to fend off the lions. Eventually, it broke free from the lion pack’s attack and successfully escaped back into the water.
Dawes noted, “The crocodile swam off, the lions walked away, lay down as if nothing had happened. I have never seen anything like this before. Even our game ranger said she had never seen or heard of such a thing.”
He added that the next day, they saw the crocodile swimming in the dam, seemingly unharmed, and friends who visited two weeks later confirmed that the crocodile was doing just fine.
