On June 2nd, a massive tornado shocked residents of Changshan Town in Songyuan City, Jilin Province, leaving destruction in its wake. Witnessing the event, many exclaimed, “It’s so frightening, I’ve never seen anything like it!”
Video footage circulating online shows a car driving on a rural road amidst dark skies and rain when suddenly, a colossal tornado appears ahead. A woman inside the car is heard saying, “It’s so scary, this is a tornado, don’t drive forward!… I’ve never seen such a huge tornado in my life, it’s reaching the sky. Oh no, all these crops are ruined.”
The videos depict roofs being ripped off, branches broken, and roads blocked in the path of the tornado.
According to a shop owner in Changshan Town interviewed by Jixiang News, at 3 p.m. on June 2nd, he witnessed a tornado roaring in the distance with strong winds that blew off roof sheds of houses and broke trees along the roads, leaving a trail of devastation.
Government officials of Changshan Town responded to local media 23-Mile Today Jilin, stating that the tornado passed through Sike Village and Xinliyishi Village with minor losses, crops remain undamaged, and crops have not emerged yet.
The officials further mentioned that the tornado lasted less than an hour, and the extent of the damage is being assessed, awaiting official reports for further details.
The official response has sparked skepticism among many netizens, with comments questioning the statement like, “Crops not emerged yet? Minor losses? Houses have collapsed.” “Why are the crops not ready to harvest yet? Isn’t it the autumn harvest season?” “It’s obvious, but they are being vague.” “Can the disaster relief funds reach every villager’s hands?”
