On the morning of May 20th, a tornado appeared near Xinyi Vocational and Technical School in Maoming, Guangdong Province. Some people captured the moment when the tornado appeared.
A video shared by a netizen showed the tornado spinning between the school and the mountain, with flames visible. Objects like clothing were blown off the building where the footage was taken.
According to “Maoming Weather,” staff from the Maoming Xinyi City Meteorological Bureau confirmed that a tornado occurred in the Lixu Community of Yudu Street, Xinyi City, Maoming, between 7:30 and 8:00 on the morning of the 20th. A furniture factory building (made of corrugated iron sheets) was damaged.
At 7:54 am on May 20th, the Xinyi City Meteorological Observatory issued a red alert for heavy rain in Dongzhen, Yudu, and Chidong, while a yellow alert for heavy rain remained in effect for other towns.
According to “Guangdong Weather,” there are projected to be five regional heavy rain events between May 21st and June 20th: May 24-25, May 29-June 1, June 6-8, June 11-14, and June 17-19. These events may bring severe convective weather such as hail, thunderstorms, strong winds, and short-term heavy rainfall.
