Tibet Cordyceps Harvesting Site Hit by Landslide, Multiple Casualties and Missing Persons

On the evening of June 1st around 9:30 pm, a mountain landslide occurred in Dingqing County, Chamdo City, Tibet. According to official sources, the accident has resulted in the deaths of 3 people, 7 individuals missing, and 2 others injured.

Reported by the state media Xinhua News Agency, the landslide happened at the caterpillar fungus excavation site in Mutuo Township, Dingqing County, with an estimated volume of about 200,000 cubic meters.

Local internet users have commented that “it is said that there were too many people digging for caterpillar fungus, which caused the mountain to collapse.”

Videos shared by netizens show that there is no vegetation on the local mountainside, and the soil appears to be easily loosened. The videos also show cars overturned below the hillside.

According to the staff of Dingqing County Government who spoke to the Beijing News, the location of the incident is at high altitude and relatively remote, with recent rainy and snowy weather and unstable communication signals. The search and rescue operations are currently ongoing.

The local emergency relief command stated that as of around 5:00 pm on June 2nd, the mountain landslide has resulted in 3 deaths, 2 injuries, and 7 people missing.
