The US Becomes the First Country to Exceed 10 Million Tons of LNG Exports in a Month

According to preliminary data from the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), the United States has become the first country to exceed 10 million tons of liquefied natural gas exports in a single month.

The data from LSEG shows that the US reached a record-breaking 10.1 million tons of LNG exports in October, up from the revised 9.1 million tons in September.

As the world’s largest liquefied natural gas exporter, the US has set export records for four consecutive months in 2025, with sales continuing to grow. The surge in exports this time is mainly attributed to the start-up of the Plaquemines export facility by Venture Global and record exports from Cheniere’s Corpus Christi facility.

In the month prior, the Plaquemines facility in Louisiana recorded sales of 2.2 million tons, surpassing its previous historical record of 1.6 million tons in September.

Cheniere’s Corpus Christi plant exported 1.6 million tons of liquefied natural gas, also setting a new export record for the facility. Combined with the 2.6 million tons exported from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass facility in October, Cheniere’s total LNG sales for the month reached 4.2 million tons, accounting for 42% of the total US LNG exports.

Jack Fusco, CEO of Cheniere, stated during a recent earnings conference call that once the Corpus Christi Phase 3 project is completed, the company is expected to export over 50 million tons annually starting from 2026.

According to LSEG data, in October, Venture Global and Cheniere accounted for 72% of the total US exports.

Europe remains the primary export destination for US liquefied natural gas, with 6.9 million tons (approximately 69% of total exports) shipped to Europe in October. Ship tracking data from LSEG indicates that exports to Europe in September were 6.22 million tons as they continue to stock up before winter.

Ship tracking data also shows that US LNG exports to Asia amounted to 1.96 million tons last month, up from 1.63 million tons in September.

In October, US LNG exports to Latin America decreased to 0.57 million tons from 0.63 million tons in September, as South America enters its warm summer season.

Data reveals that Egypt purchased five shipments totaling 0.43 million tons in October, lower than the 0.5 million tons bought in September.
