The United States Announces New Arms Sale to Taiwan Totaling $228 Million

The United States Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced the latest arms sale to Taiwan with a total value of 228 million US dollars. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China stated that this is the 16th time the Biden administration has announced arms sales to Taiwan, demonstrating the normalization of arms sales to Taiwan as well as a steadfast security commitment.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) of the United States stated on the 16th that the State Department has approved this arms sale. This marks the 16th arms sale to Taiwan during the tenure of US President Joe Biden.

The Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of China stated today (17th) that the US government notified Congress on September 16 Eastern Time about the sale of the “Open Attachment Repair Return” for the Air Force, valued at 220.8 million US dollars, and it is expected to take effect officially after one month.

The Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense pointed out that the Chinese Communist Party’s normalized gray zone provocations continue to oppress Taiwan’s airspace training space and response time. The aircraft parts and repair equipment agreed upon by the US this time will help maintain the readiness and proper maintenance of various types of aircraft equipment of the Taiwanese Air Force.

The Ministry of National Defense of Taiwan stated that based on the Taiwan Relations Act and the “Six Assurances”, the United States continues to assist Taiwan in maintaining sufficient self-defense capabilities, which is the foundation of regional stability. The Ministry of Defense expressed sincere gratitude for the US arms sales decision.
