The Top Ten Busiest Airports in the World, Four of which are in the United States

The Airports Council International (ACI World) announced on Tuesday (July 8) the ranking of the busiest airports in the world. According to total passenger traffic, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in the United States topped the list, followed by Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates when considering international passenger volume.

ACI World identified the busiest airports globally in 2024 based on three main categories: passenger traffic, air cargo volumes, and aircraft movements. This ranking is considered the most comprehensive and authoritative global airport ranking resource in the industry.

The data used for this ranking covered over 2,800 airports from more than 185 countries and regions, providing a comprehensive overview of global aviation demand and activities over the past year.

According to the report released by ACI World, global passenger traffic reached a new high in 2024, exceeding 9.4 billion passengers, an increase of 8.4% from 2023 and 2.7% higher than the pre-pandemic level in 2019. The top 20 airports handled 1.54 billion passengers, accounting for 16% of global airport passenger traffic.

Notably, among the top ten busiest international airports globally, the United States holds four spots, and in the top 20, it occupies six spots.
