South Korean film “Showdown of Gods and Devils” starring actors Sun Sikkyu, Kim Seong Cheol, Chen Qing, Kim Donghui, revolves around the topic of a journalist uncovering manipulation of online public opinion organizations. The blend of truth and fiction in the information presented not only confuses the main characters in the film but also enthralls the audience.
In the movie, Sun Sikkyu portrays a journalist and disclosed that in his personal life, he often goes online to see the public’s comments and reactions about him.
He said, “Recently, if I don’t check the comments about myself on social media, I might be considered strange!”
However, Sun Sikkyu also admitted that he sometimes feels hurt by untrue comments or reports.
He further stated, “I don’t intend to speak too cautiously. Perhaps the words I unintentionally speak may have an impact on others, but I want to show my inner thoughts. Although this may lead to negative evaluations or be seen as my mistake, it seems like a natural process.”
Additionally, he mentioned that he doesn’t want to hide or lie due to pressure, saying, “If I hide my true feelings and lie, wouldn’t I have more things to worry about? That would seem more stressful.”
Sun Sikkyu also confessed that before filming “Showdown of Gods and Devils,” he had biases against journalists. However, after meeting with the author of the original novel, Zhang Kangming, his perspective changed.
He expressed, “Writer Zhang Kangming was once a journalist, and I wanted to understand the unique qualities of journalists. I had biases against journalists, so I asked if some of my thoughts were correct, only to find out that some were while others didn’t quite match.”
During the preparation for filming this movie, Sun Sikkyu gained a deeper understanding of the attitude and mindset of journalists in writing articles. He highlighted that just as actors hope for their films to be successful, journalists also aim for their articles to become exclusive news in society. He found the responsibility journalists hold over their reporting content impressive and admirable.
Recently, Sun Sikkyu departed from the entertainment agency he had collaborated with for many years and established his own planning company to conduct artistic activities independently. His primary motive was to establish a system exclusive to himself. As an actor, besides performing in front of the camera, there are other aspects to manage, “My previous company handled this part well, we even had contract renewal opportunities, but this time I wanted to take full control, hence the decision to establish a personal company.”
Sun Sikkyu revealed that his company currently consists of only himself and another staff member and is in the process of structuring, “We don’t have specific titles; I simply set up the company, and there are professionals handling specific matters.”
