The annual highlight event “2024 Art DIY Festival” at Yilan Zhongxing Creative Park once again showcases the aesthetic experience of art and technology intertwining, themed “Continuation‧Weave: Artistic Journey”. Starting from May 9th to June 11th, the event features a dreamy exhibition combining scenario construction, three-dimensional art installations, and technological art. It also incorporates real-time interactive experiences connected through 5G technology, presenting a total of 11 art creations in a virtual reality for the public to explore in a fun and immersive way.
The Art DIY Festival has received subsidies from the Digital Industry Development Agency since 112 (2023). In addition to continuing to address women’s issues and indigenous cultural themes, it focuses on how to give physical artworks a second or even a third life through 5G communication technology. Artists Wang Liansheng and Lian Baihong’s works detect and sense the sound or movements of the audience on-site, directly or indirectly influencing the continuous generation of real-time computational images. Artist Jiang Yuren invites the audience to draw with their fingers, as if leaving memories with just a few gentle strokes. Artists Chen Shuyan, Xu Yibai, and Chen Huiming have delved deep into the local communities, tribes, and residents of Yilan to co-create, yielding fruitful results. In the VR experience exhibition space, wearable devices allow people to enter virtual reality, integrating the artists’ works within, transforming the experience of visiting art and cultural exhibitions from passive appreciation to active participation, where artworks evolve continuously as visitors explore firsthand, transitioning from the realm of art to virtual landscapes, allowing for more imaginative space.
“Continuation‧Weave: Artistic Journey” takes place primarily at the Material Warehouse, intertwining and connecting various activities throughout the exhibition period at different locations within the Zhongxing Creative Park. The main exhibition space utilizes paper as the medium to shape the exhibition area, symbolizing the historical context of the park’s past as a paper mill. It is complemented by fiber textiles to create a fantastical artistic atmosphere, leading the audience into a surreal experience. Buildings 54 and South Banyan Plaza exhibit popular local graffiti and cute large inflatable art installations. During the exhibition period, the “Good Day Good Food” market is held on weekends at the Solar House, offering local cuisine and creative design products, along with artist lectures and workshops for those who enjoy the intersection of art, culture, and technology to enjoy hands-on creativity under the guidance of artists. All friends are sincerely invited to come to Yilan and experience the intertwining of virtual and reality in arts and culture.
