15 US Cities with the Fastest Population Growth, One State Takes Eight

The latest population growth data from the US Census Bureau has revealed the 15 fastest-growing cities in the United States. Most of these cities are located in the southern region. Among these top 15 fastest-growing cities, the dominant ones are from the state of Texas.

Some of these cities may be unfamiliar or relatively unknown to you. Celina, Texas is one of them, ranking first among the fastest-growing cities in terms of population growth.

The Census Bureau’s most recent statistics are based on growth data from July 1, 2022, to July 1, 2023. During this period, Celina’s population grew by 26.6%, which is more than 53 times the national growth rate of 0.5%.

According to the New York Post, Chief Economist Danielle Hale of the online real estate listing site “Realtor.com” said that the list of fastest-growing cities includes many smaller cities that are less likely to attract attention.

Among the 15 fastest-growing cities listed, only two are not located in the southern United States: Lathrop, California, with a growth rate of 13.6%, and Athens, Ohio, with a growth rate of 8.6%.

1. Celina, Texas: 26.6%

The statistics from the US Census Bureau show that 13 of the 15 fastest-growing cities are located in the southern United States, with Texas cities occupying 8 positions on the list.

Hale stated, “A robust job market, relatively affordable housing, and strong housing construction are some of the factors that have attracted people to Texas in recent years.”

The report also quoted Wendy Flynn from the Texas-based real estate company Keller Williams, saying, “Many companies are moving here for tax purposes, and there is no income tax here.”

“Additionally, there are a variety of communities to live in, whether it’s bustling metropolitan areas or charming small towns,” Flynn added.

The report mentioned that the median home price in Celina, Texas, the top-ranked city, is $679,999. People may be moving here not because of affordable housing but because of the city’s proximity to Dallas with just an hour’s commute, high-ranking schools, and low crime rates.

The second-ranked Texas city, Fulshear, is also not inexpensive, with a median home price of $519,000. The rapid population growth in this city may be due to its proximity to Houston, just an hour’s drive away.

In terms of population growth numbers, San Antonio, Texas, ranks first with an increase of 21,970 people, followed by Fort Worth, Texas, with an increase of 21,365 people, and Charlotte, North Carolina, with an increase of 15,607 people.
