The First Lady will speak at the Democratic National Convention to honor Joe Biden.

The Democratic National Convention (DNC) will be held in Chicago from August 19th to 22nd, spanning four days. First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, is set to deliver a speech on Monday evening during the convention, reflecting on President Biden’s 50-year political career and the years they have spent together. As President Biden’s term comes to a close, her speech marks her departure from the political stage as the First Lady.

She once mentioned that when she married then Delaware Senator Biden in 1977, she knew it would entail living a life “under the spotlight that I never wanted.”

According to an Associated Press report on Monday, a source familiar with Jill Biden revealed that before the President delivers the keynote speech on the opening night of the convention, the First Lady will speak, discussing the President and expressing support for Vice President Kamala Harris’s reelection bid. The source spoke anonymously about the yet-to-be-delivered speech by Jill.

The source cited the First Lady’s prepared speech, stating that she will urge Americans to come together, “trust one another, hope for a brighter future, and love our country.”

After Biden withdrew from the race on July 21st, the Democratic National Convention was rescheduled. The convention will now recognize his lengthy history of public service, including six terms as a U.S. Senator from Delaware, eight years as Vice President, and a four-year presidential term.

By mid-January next year, Biden will conclude his presidential term. In the remaining months, Jill Biden’s aides say she will continue to focus on her passions: aiding military families through her Joining Forces initiative, reducing cancer deaths through the Biden Cancer Moonshot program, advancing research on women’s cancers, and enhancing educational opportunities.

During her tenure as First Lady in the White House, Jill Biden also worked as an English and writing professor at Northern Virginia Community College since 2009. She became the first First Lady to hold a paying job outside the White House, paving a new path for First Ladies.

As the First Lady, Jill Biden has visited over 40 states, more than 200 towns, and 19 countries. Her most recent visit was leading a delegation to France to support the U.S. team at the Olympics.

In 2022, she visited Ukraine following Russia’s invasion, expressing America’s support for the country.
