In recent news, following the disappointing box office performance of Marvel’s “Captain Marvel 2,” British actor Joseph Quinn, who has joined the cast as “The Human Torch” in the upcoming 2025 film “Fantastic Four,” expressed confidence in the movie and discussed how it will combat superhero fatigue.
Joseph Quinn, a 30-year-old actor known for his role in “Stranger Things,” recently announced his participation in the Marvel series, portraying the superhero Johnny Storm in the new “Fantastic Four” film. When asked by Entertainment Weekly about concerns regarding superhero fatigue, Quinn reassured fans that the story of “Fantastic Four” is unique and compelling compared to other Marvel movies, alleviating any worries about the issue.
Quinn stated, “Regarding the story of ‘Fantastic Four,’ we aim to do it justice. Its narrative sets it apart from other Marvel films, which is very appealing to me. I’ve read the script, and it’s truly fantastic.” He also praised the talented individuals involved in the project, including director Matt Shakman and the rest of the cast, expressing his excitement to be part of the film.
In addition to discussing the script, Quinn elaborated on strategies to combat superhero fatigue, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the human aspect of superhero films. He highlighted that investing in characters, their development, challenges, and spectacle is what draws audiences to the cinema, emphasizing the dedication and effort put into the movie.
Since Disney acquired the rights to “Fantastic Four” from 20th Century Fox in 2019, Marvel Studios under Disney’s umbrella plans to reintroduce this beloved superhero team to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2025.
Prior film adaptations of “Fantastic Four” in 2005, 2007, and 2015 received mixed reviews from critics despite their box office success, prompting the franchise to undergo a reboot. Quinn expressed his admiration for Chris Evans’ portrayal of the Human Torch in the earlier films and saw his casting as a thrilling opportunity to make the character his own.
During promotions for “Captain Marvel 2” last fall, director Nia DaCosta acknowledged the existence of superhero fatigue, a sentiment echoed by “Guardians of the Galaxy 3” director James Gunn, who emphasized the need for emotionally resonant storytelling to engage audiences.
Besides Quinn playing The Human Torch, the new “Fantastic Four” movie also features Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing, and Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer, a classic comic book character.
“Fantastic Four” is set to premiere in the United States on July 25, 2025, promising a fresh take on the iconic superhero team and potentially revitalizing interest in the franchise.
