The Democratic Party of the United States includes six guarantees in its manifesto: Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says ‘strong support from friends of Taiwan’.

The Democratic Party of the United States passed the 2024 party platform on the 19th, once again including pro-Taiwan language. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China expressed gratitude today (20th) and pointed out that this is the first time it mentions a firm commitment to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, as well as the Six Assurances, showing strong support for Taiwan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China stated in a press release that the Democratic National Convention passed the party platform on the 19th, once again including pro-Taiwan language, reaffirming the Democratic Party’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait based on the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances, and ensuring that no party unilaterally changes the status quo.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China pointed out that not only is this a clear expression of the Democratic Party’s firm support for Taiwan in the party platform, but it is also the first time it has mentioned the commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the Six Assurances, demonstrating strong support for Taiwan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed sincere welcome and gratitude.

“The Democratic Party held a physical national convention after an 8-year hiatus, and our country sent a delegation to Chicago as usual. The inclusion of pro-Taiwan language in the party platform by the Democratic Party not only expresses firm support for Taiwan but also highlights the high importance placed on peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. In fact, maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait has not only received support from the United States but has gradually become an international consensus,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China stated, “Our country maintains long-standing friendly relations with various sectors in the United States. In the future, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to work closely with friends from the Democratic and Republican parties in the United States on the basis of this good foundation, steadily deepening the Taiwan-U.S. global partnership based on shared values.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China recently stated that Taiwan has close and friendly relations with both the Republican and Democratic parties in the United States, and this year, as usual, a delegation was sent to attend the national conventions of both parties, with members appointed by the major political parties.

Taiwanese legislator Wang Ting-yu posted on Facebook that he was honored to serve as the head of the delegation and the delegation is expected to visit the United States from the 18th to the 25th. It is understood that members of the cross-party Taiwanese delegation attending the Democratic National Convention include Democratic Progressive Party legislators Wang Ting-yu, Fan Yun, DPP spokesperson Hsiao Ying, DPP Executive Yuan member Lee Yen-hui, Kaohsiung City Councilor Tang Yong-yu; Kuomintang legislators Hsu Yu-chen, Ko Ju-kun, Chiu Jo-hwa, KMT spokesperson Yang Chih-yu, KMT Representative to the U.S. Winston Yu; as well as People First Party Legislative Yuan caucus convenor Huang Kuo-chang.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China previously stated that the delegation of 11 cross-party representatives who attended the Republican National Convention in July included KMT Representative to the U.S. Winston Yu, KMT Deputy Spokesperson Kang Chin-yu, Youth Corps head Lo Yung-sheng, Taoyuan City Councilor Ling Tao, KMT Deputy Secretary-General Chiang Chun-ting; DPP Representative to the U.S. Office Director Hsiao Shun-wen, DPP Chairperson’s Office Assistant Chen Ming-jen, Youth Department Director Ruan Chun-ta, New Taipei City Councilor Chen Nai-yu, Kaohsiung City Councilor Chiu Chun-hsien.
