The Anti-Drug Alliance urges the public to use phone blitz to block SB 1012 proposal.

Advocates for the legalization of psychedelic drugs, SB 1012, are currently pushing for approval in the California Senate Appropriations Committee.

Leading anti-drug expert, Li Shaomin, urges Californians to come together on May 1st and 2nd to call the Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Anna M. Caballero, at 916-651-4014, and clearly state, “Please Reject SB 1012.”

Recently, the proposal to legalize psychedelic drugs, SB 1012, has passed two hurdles consecutively. On April 16th, it was approved by a vote of 7 to 4 in the California Senate Committee on Business, Professions, and Economic Development.

Following that, on April 22nd, it passed by a vote of 3 to 2 in the California Senate Committee on Public Safety. The SB 1012 proposal will face a public hearing in the California Senate Appropriations Committee before May 16th.

Li Shaomin, Deputy Director of the California Coalition Against Drugs (CCAD), stated that the coalition has consistently fought against drug proposals brought forth by California Senator Scott Wiener over the years, including psychedelic drug legalization proposals in the past three years. However, this year, Wiener has reintroduced the SB 1012 proposal for psychedelic drug legalization.

He emphasized that the SB 1012 proposal not only legalizes infamous substances like MDMA but also imposes it on all cities in California, creating a national precedent of using taxpayer funds to promote psychedelic drugs. If passed, SB 1012 will pave the way for industrializing psychedelic drugs and ultimately lead to the comprehensive legalization of drugs.

He warned that widespread drug use would result in increased crime rates, homelessness, and even make highways unsafe.

Li Shaomin mentioned that in 2023, the anti-drug coalition mobilized thousands of Californians to successfully defeat the proposal for psychedelic drug legalization by calling the Chair’s office of the Appropriations Committee.

This year, he hopes that Californians will unite once again to strongly oppose SB 1012. He calls on everyone to take collective action on May 1st and 2nd by contacting the Chair of the Appropriations Committee, Anna M. Caballero, to block the legalization of psychedelic drugs proposal once more.
