Camp Mystic announced on Monday (July 7th) that the catastrophic floods in the Guadalupe River basin in central Texas have resulted in the death of 27 campers and counselors.
In a statement, the camp expressed deep condolences for the 27 campers and counselors who lost their lives due to the catastrophic floods in the Guadalupe River basin.
In a statement on their website, the camp stated, “We have been praying for them. Our hearts are with the families going through this unimaginable tragedy.”
The camp expressed gratitude for the support received during the search and rescue operations and stated, “We implore everyone to continue praying for the affected families, respect and protect their privacy. May the Lord continue to surround us all with His love.”
The sudden flooding that occurred in the hilly region of central Texas on Friday has claimed the lives of over 80 individuals.
In the early hours of that day, the water level of the Guadalupe River rose rapidly, catching people off guard, prompting authorities to launch large-scale rescue and search operations.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott visited the disaster area over the weekend and described the devastation suffered by the camp as a “shocking disaster.” Abbott mentioned that over 1500 state government personnel have been deployed to the flood-affected areas.
President Trump signed a statement on Sunday declaring the Texas floods as a major disaster to ensure that Texas rescue personnel have access to the necessary federal resources. He offered condolences to the victims and prayed, “May God bless all those who have endured such hardship, may God bless, may God bless Texas.” He mentioned that the White House has been in contact with Governor Abbott, and President Trump may visit the disaster area for inspection by Friday.
