Tesla announced on Friday a price increase of $15,000 for its flagship electric pickup truck, the Cybertruck “Cyberbeast” in the U.S. market, bringing the new price to $114,990. This move has sparked market attention as the vehicle’s sales have been below expectations and have faced several recalls.
According to reports from Reuters, the price hike is related to Tesla’s introduction of the “Luxe Package,” which includes features such as Supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD), free use of the Supercharger network, and premium connectivity. The industry believes that the company’s intention with this move is to highlight the product’s value rather than just a simple price increase.
Elon Musk had previously claimed in 2019 that the starting price for the Cybertruck would remain around $40,000. However, when it went into production by the end of 2023, the base version was priced at $60,990. With this latest adjustment, the Cyberbeast’s price has surpassed $110,000, far exceeding the initial commitment. In comparison, competitors such as Ford’s F-150 Lightning and Chevrolet’s Silverado EV still offer certain models at lower entry-level prices, indicating Tesla’s choice to highlight its position in the high-end market.
To maintain sales, Tesla has recently offered discounts of around $10,000 on inventory vehicles. Musk had stated that the company has the capacity to produce over 125,000 Cybertrucks annually and plans to increase it to 250,000 by 2025, but has acknowledged the challenges of scaling production. In March of this year, Tesla recalled approximately 46,000 vehicles due to pedal defects, indicating that actual delivery numbers are still below production targets.
Despite this, the Cybertruck has been a popular topic since its launch. Many supporters view it as a symbol of futuristic design and the spirit of new energy, with purchasing the Cyberbeast seen as an identity and value choice beyond just performance needs. They believe that the new package upgrades the overall experience, making the extra expenses worth investing in.
Market observers have noted that this price adjustment reflects the profit pressure under the backdrop of slowing demand for new energy vehicles, while also showing Tesla’s desire to boost attractiveness through a complete feature set. For core fans, the Cyberbeast still holds a unique position, but for price-sensitive consumers, competitors may become more appealing alternatives.
