Tencent’s online education platform “Tencent Classroom” will cease operation.

Tencent’s well-known online education platform, “Tencent Classroom,” will cease operations on October 1st and will completely stop all platform services.

Recently, Tencent Classroom’s official website announced that starting from August 1st, all access to online courses will be suspended. Users will no longer be able to access new course content but can continue to view historical free course content listed in the “course schedule.” Tencent Classroom will cease operations on October 1st, at which point, all platform services will be discontinued.

Currently, the “Tencent Classroom” application cannot be found in both the Apple App Store and the Huawei App Gallery. The Android application store warns that due to reasons related to the developer, downloads are temporarily unavailable.

Tencent Classroom, an online education platform, was launched in April 2014. It brought together numerous educational institutions and renowned teachers, offering a wide range of online learning courses such as vocational training, civil service exams, TOEFL/IELTS preparation, certifications, English speaking, and more. In 2015, Tencent Classroom released its mobile app and H5 pages.

According to data disclosed in 2019, in 2018, the overall platform institution revenue increased by 70% compared to the previous year. The revenue of the top 100 institutions doubled, and there were over 20 institution partners with revenue exceeding tens of millions of yuan.

In March 2020, Tencent Classroom announced a 3.5-fold increase in total online vocational education class hours. In April of the same year, according to the 2020 Q1 China Mobile Internet Dark Horse List released by QuestMobile, Tencent Classroom’s average Sunday active user base ranked first in the education and learning industry. The compound growth rate of the average Sunday active user base ranked second in the industry with a growth rate of 38.6%.

In August of last year, Tencent Classroom suddenly announced the discontinuation of services. EduTech Pass will cease to provide services starting from September 20, 2023, with functions such as course delivery, scheduling, creating live tasks, and transactions being suspended.
