Taylor Swift’s Concert Brings in Big Money for the UK Alongside 3 Minor Earthquakes

Taylor Swift’s Era Tour kicked off in London, the capital of the UK, on the 21st. London is not only the city with the most performances in the world, but it is also expected to bring economic growth of £300 million (approximately 12.3 billion New Taiwan dollars) to the city. The concert in Edinburgh even caused three earthquakes, with the tremors felt within a 6-kilometer radius of the venue.

In June and August 2024, Taylor Swift’s “Era Tour” took place in the UK with a total of 15 shows, held in Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff, and London in Scotland. Ten shows were held in June, with Edinburgh, Liverpool, and London each hosting three shows and Cardiff one. An additional five shows will return to London in August, making London the city with the most concert performances in the world.

According to data released by the Greater London Authority on the 20th, the Era Tour at Wembley Stadium this summer is expected to attract around 700,000 visitors, potentially bringing in an economic income of around £300 million (approximately $380 million USD) to the capital city of London. Previously, Barclays Bank estimated that Taylor Swift could bring about $1.26 billion in economic growth to the UK, with each fan spending an average of about $1,100.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said, “The Era Tour has broken multiple records and has generated significant interest. I am delighted that Taylor Swift has chosen to perform in London for more shows than anywhere else in the world.”

Khan added, “Taylor Swift’s eight shows will attract nearly 700,000 fans from across the country and beyond to Wembley Stadium, greatly boosting our hospitality industry and further proving that London is the best city in the world to experience live music performances.”

Interestingly, during Taylor Swift’s performance in Edinburgh, the British Geological Survey released a report documenting seismic activities caused by tens of thousands of fans, with three earthquakes occurring during one show, corresponding to three songs, and tremors felt within a 6-kilometer radius of the venue.

The report highlighted three of Taylor Swift’s most impactful songs, including “Ready for It?”, “Cruel Summer,” and “Champagne Problems.” Particularly during the performance of “Ready for It?”, the dancing of the fans led to earthquakes reaching a peak of 160 beats per minute (bpm), estimated to generate around 80 kW of power.

According to People magazine, on the evening of the 22nd, Taylor Swift’s second show in London attracted a star-studded audience, including American actors Tom Cruise, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, and director Greta Gerwig of “Barbie.”
