On May 19th, the 526th episode of the KBS variety show “The Return of Superman” aired, featuring FTISLAND member Choi Min-hwan discussing how his three children were taken care of by their mother while he was away for overseas performances. Choi Min-hwan expressed his gratitude towards his mother for her help and care for the children, acknowledging that looking after three kids is not an easy task.
Appearing in Japan for performances as a member of FTISLAND, Choi Min-hwan said, “While I was performing, my three children were taken care of by their mother, and their father was in the countryside, so they spent these two weeks there. I wouldn’t have been able to participate in the performances without my parents.”
Choi Min-hwan also expressed his love for his children, named Roh, Ah-yoon, and Ah-rin, saying, “I haven’t been home for about ten days due to the overseas tour. So, I feel sorry for the kids and whenever I’m home, I try to make memories with them and treat them well.”
To make special memories for his children, Choi Min-hwan created a “rooftop garden” where the siblings were seen happily planting tomato seedlings. Suddenly, Choi Min-hwan turned on a sprinkler to create a mini water park on the rooftop, and the children gleefully ran around in the water. He also prepared a sentimental “rooftop camping” experience to fulfill his son Roh’s wish to camp.
During a barbecue session, despite tears streaming down his face due to the smoke, Choi Min-hwan persevered in grilling meat, showcasing his desire as a father to provide the best for his three children. Upon this, Ah-yoon expressed her happiness with beautiful wording, saying, “The pitch-black night has become even more beautiful,” which surprised her father, Choi Min-hwan. As the episode was filmed around Mother’s Day, the children adorned their heads with carnations and prepared a cake and cards for their grandmother, wishing her good health and longevity.
Choi Min-hwan’s mother shared, “Their father often goes out to work, so the children spend a lot of time with me. When I was injured, the kids were scared and cried. To prevent me from getting hurt, all three of them hugged me and massaged me. When I mentioned my back ache, Roh always held my hand and helped me up. I feel that taking care of these three grandchildren is my reward.”
Choi Min-hwan also expressed his gratitude towards his mother, stating, “Even though my mother says it’s okay, I know raising three children is not an easy task, so I’m very grateful. I can’t express it in words. I wondered how to convey my feelings to my mother, so I wrote down my thoughts on the cake and gave it to her.” The cake had a message that read, “I love you more today than yesterday, wishing you good health.”
Choi Min-hwan announced his divorce from former LABOUM member Lo in December last year. The couple has a son and twin daughters, all of whom are cared for by Choi Min-hwan.
