“Takayanagi” does not want his character to be killed, refusing to act in “Impossible 6”

In a recent interview, Jeremy Renner, best known for his role as “Hawkeye” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, revealed some interesting insights about his involvement in the “Mission: Impossible” film series. Renner, who previously starred alongside Tom Cruise in the fourth and fifth installments of the franchise, disclosed that he turned down a role in the sixth film because the producers wanted his character to be killed off, a storyline he wasn’t keen on.

Renner portrayed the character of William Brandt, an analyst for the Impossible Missions Force (IMF), in “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” (2011) and “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” (2015) alongside Tom Cruise, also known as Ethan Hunt in the films.

One of the main reasons Renner cited for declining the opportunity to appear in “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” (2018) was his young daughter at the time. He expressed that he couldn’t bear to be away from her for an extended period and also lost interest in the project upon learning about the fate of his character.

During an appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Renner recounted the conversation he had with the filmmakers regarding his character’s storyline. He humorously recalled protesting against the idea of his character being killed off, emphasizing that if they were going to take such a step, they had to do it right.

Christopher McQuarrie, who directed the fifth through eighth installments of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, was teased by Renner during their collaboration. Renner jokingly recounted how he argued with the director, insisting that he couldn’t treat him that way or do him wrong.

Reflecting on his decision during an interview with Collider, Renner explained that while he enjoyed working with the cast and crew, including Tom Cruise, filming in London for an extended period posed challenges as a father. Despite his fondness for the character and the experience, he had to prioritize his family commitments.

Renner expressed his willingness to return to the “Mission: Impossible” series now that his daughter is older and more independent. He eagerly hinted at the possibility of reprising his role as Brandt in future installments, expressing his enthusiasm for the prospect.

As for his potential return to the “Avengers” franchise as “Hawkeye” and reuniting with other superheroes, Renner expressed his excitement at the idea. He conveyed his eagerness to revisit the character and reunite with the ensemble cast for another adventure.

With his dedication to his family and passion for his craft, Jeremy Renner’s future in both the “Mission: Impossible” and “Avengers” franchises remains promising, leaving fans eager to see what the talented actor will bring to the screen next.
