In a report from Epoch Times on August 15, 2024, the 2024 Little League World Series was held in Williamsport, Pennsylvania from August 14 to 25. Guishan Elementary School from Taoyuan City secured the Asia-Pacific representative rights. The team was led by Principal Ding Boqiang, Head Coach Li Zhengda, and Taoyuan City Councilor Yang Jiaying, along with 12 players who traveled to the United States to compete.
Guishan Elementary School’s Little League team played their first game against a team from Canada on August 14 at 5 p.m. Taiwan’s Representative to New York, Lee Chih-chiang, visited the stadium to cheer on the young players and presented them with encouragement funds, wishing them success in their inaugural match. Local dignitaries from Williamsport, including Congressman Dan Meuser, District Director James May and his wife, State Senator Gene Yaw, State Assemblyman David Rowe, and State Assemblyman Jamie Flick, also attended the game to witness the young players’ outstanding skills.
Furthermore, enthusiastic compatriots and students from the Greater New York area, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and other regions came to provide support and cheer for the team. With strong support from all sides, Guishan Elementary School’s Little League team achieved an impressive 8-0 victory over Canada in their first game. They will face off against the team from Australia on August 16 at 5 p.m.
The Overseas Community Affairs Council in New York and overseas Taiwanese communities in the Greater New York area wish the young players continued outstanding performances in the upcoming matches, hoping for a series of victories. Lee Chih-chiang also encouraged the players to make friends through the game, exchange skills with players from other teams, and convey Taiwan’s warm and friendly spirit to participants from various countries. Winning not only the games but also the friendship, they aim for a fruitful journey with great outcomes.
