On September 9, 2025, Canadian and Australian warships passed through the Taiwan Strait in the morning. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China stated that this action continues to demonstrate Canada and Australia’s firm determination to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait through concrete actions. Taiwan welcomed this move and expressed its intention to continue strengthening its self-defense capabilities, as well as deepening exchanges and cooperation with democratic allies.
The Canadian Halifax-class frigate HMCS Ville de Québec and the Australian missile destroyer HMAS Brisbane jointly navigated through the Taiwan Strait on the 6th.
A spokesman for the Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, Shi Yi, stated that Chinese naval and air forces closely monitored and remained on high alert throughout the passage of Canadian and Australian warships, resolutely defending national sovereignty, security, and regional peace and stability.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China welcomed and appreciated Canada and Australia’s concrete actions to defend freedom, peace, and openness in the Taiwan Strait, and their affirmation that the strait is an international waterway.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China pointed out that this is the second time this year that Canadian warships have passed through the Taiwan Strait, and the seventh time since Canada announced its Indo-Pacific Strategy in November 2022. Furthermore, this is Australia’s first public deployment of a warship through the Taiwan Strait this year, demonstrating the unwavering determination of both Canada and Australia to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait through concrete actions.
In the face of various provocations by the Chinese Communist Party, the government of the Republic of China will continue to enhance its self-defense capabilities, deepen exchanges and cooperation with democratic allies, jointly defend the rules-based international order, and uphold peace, stability, and prosperity in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region.
The Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of China declared today (the 9th) the activities of Chinese military aircraft and vessels in the airspace around the Taiwan Strait. From 6 am on the 8th to 6 am today, a total of three incidents of Chinese aircraft (including two crossings of the median line into the northern airspace) and six Chinese vessels and one government ship were detected, totaling ten Chinese aircraft and vessels continuously operating around the Taiwan Strait.
The Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of China stated that the military is closely monitoring and responding with aircraft, ships, and land-based missile systems.
