Taiwan’s First Quarter Tourist Arrivals Exceed 2 Million, Double Growth from Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and Macau.

The Tourism Bureau of the Republic of China’s Ministry of Transportation recently released the number of visitors to Taiwan in the first quarter of this year, totaling 2,049,917 people. Japan ranked first, followed by Hong Kong and Macao in second place, and South Korea in third place, with the number of tourists from each country doubling compared to last year.

According to the figures released by the Tourism Bureau for the number of visitors to Taiwan and the growth rate from January to March, a total of 2,049,917 people visited Taiwan. Japan had the highest number with 348,913 visitors, followed by Hong Kong and Macao with 329,988 visitors, and South Korea in third place with 316,958 visitors.

Statistics show that regardless of Japan, Hong Kong and Macao, or South Korea, the number of visitors to Taiwan in the first quarter of this year more than doubled compared to the same period last year. In particular, the number of tourists from Hong Kong and Macao increased from around 100,000 in the same period last year to over 300,000 this year.

Southeast Asian travel saw 616,000 visitors in the first quarter of this year. Although the growth rate is not as high as Japan, Hong Kong and Macao, and South Korea, the number of visitors to Taiwan still increased by around 30% compared to the same period last year.

For European and American visitors, including countries such as Canada, the United States, Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina, the number of visitors to Taiwan increased by 62% compared to the same period last year, while countries like Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom in Europe saw a growth of 54%.

The Tourism Bureau pointed out that although the number of international tourists to Taiwan exceeded 3.4 million as of June 10, the second half of the year is considered the peak season for international visitors to Taiwan.

Transportation Minister of the Republic of China, Li Meng-yan, mentioned in a recent media interview that the goal of attracting 10 million visitors to Taiwan this year is challenging but still achievable.
