Taiwan’s first “live-streaming e-commerce” talent show premiered, with Kou Naixin as the chief judge.

In a lively e-commerce market, Taiwan’s variety shows are searching for potential live streamers for e-commerce brands, launching the first-ever live streamer talent show in Taiwan called “Super Product King.” Today, the show held its premiere press conference, inviting actress Kou Nai Xin, who has achieved over a billion in sales through live streaming, to be the chief judge and lead hundreds of contestants to challenge live product sales.

Live streaming and talent shows are not new concepts in Taiwan, but the combination of “live streaming + talent show” is a pioneering initiative by Taiwanese television stations. The show “Super Product King,” which combines “live streamer” with “talent show,” will air every Sunday night at 7 p.m. local time starting from June 28th.

During today’s press conference, in addition to the contestants, judges Kou Nai Xin, Huang Guo Lun, Yu Bing Yan, Li Wei Feng, Li Ming Chuan, and Cen Ni were all present at the event.

Husband and wife duo Huang Guo Lun and Kou Nai Xin immediately bantered on stage, joking that this kind of live streaming brings in more viewers. Huang Guo Lun believes that being likable is crucial for a live streamer, but Kou Nai Xin thinks that only women love shopping and doesn’t deny that good looks are a bonus because they have to capture the audience’s attention in the first five seconds.

Renowned musician Huang Guo Lun previously sold women’s hygiene products through live streaming, achieving outstanding results. He initially thought singing songs would be sufficient but unexpectedly became a hit, even his friends teased him for how he ended up in this line of work.

Yu Bing Yan, a former Taiwanese drama actor, transitioned to live streaming. He jokingly said, “I quit because it was too lucrative!” He believes that endurance is key in live streaming, especially in keeping the conversation flowing, even when there are no viewers. “The first thing to do when entering this field is to put aside one’s ego. You can’t juggle acting and live streaming; live streamers must be hands-on,” he emphasized.

In the selection process for “Super Product King,” outstanding individuals from various fields have participated, and Kou Nai Xin openly admitted that they could potentially become her competitors in the future. Among the contestants, there was one who started selling products and kept singing on stage, causing the judges to become impatient. Kou Nai Xin remarked, “Being able to perfectly avoid hitting the right notes is quite impressive.”

Judge Li Ming Chuan expressed the awkwardness he faced because he knew many of the contestants personally, making it challenging to ensure fairness and consider the contestants’ feelings while maintaining a clear boundary between personal and professional relationships.

Cen Ni, who is under the mentorship of Wu Tsung-Hsien (Jacky Wu), served as an assistant for 3 to 4 years, assisting with Wu’s product promotions, which has yielded good sales results. However, Cen Ni sees herself as still in a learning phase, praising Wu for his humor and ability to present products interestingly during conversations, something that the average person may struggle with, as it could become monotonous.
