Taiwan’s advance logistics team visits Los Angeles for Thanksgiving dinner during Olympic inspection.

Former Chairman of the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission, Chen Shikui, led a pre-Olympic inspection team for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics to Los Angeles for logistical and training venue inspections. On November 23 (Sunday), coinciding with the Taiwan Student Thanksgiving Dinner in the Great Los Angeles Taiwanese Center, the inspection team also participated in the event with the students studying abroad.

Chen Shikui stated that the team consists of 18 members, including representatives from the Chinese Olympic Committee, the Sports Bureau, the National Training Center in Zuoying, and the National Sports Center. Their main task is to advance the logistical planning for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, especially in the preparation of training, accommodation, rehabilitation, and transportation support resources.

Due to the regulations of the Olympic athletes’ village, athletes can only check-in a few days before the competition, following the “two days before, two days after” or “three days before, two days after” rules. Therefore, if athletes arrive a week early, they still need to find suitable training venues and living arrangements. This inspection aims to assist the Republic of China’s delegation in advance planning to ensure that athletes have adequate and perfect training and rest spaces before formally entering the athletes’ village.

Chen Shikui mentioned that it is still uncertain which sports events will ultimately use which venues and resources because there are still selections and list confirmation to be done. Nevertheless, before the list of athletes is announced, the team will prioritize finding training units and accommodation resources with professional capabilities, complete facilities, and willingness to cooperate, as they play a crucial role in the overall logistical layout.

Chen Shikui emphasized that the Los Angeles area has many overseas compatriots and units that have long supported Taiwan’s sports development. This trip also aims to communicate extensively with related resources and establish a cooperative model, hoping to receive more assistance so that our athletes will truly have “no worries” in 2028.

The inspection team had a lively interaction with the overseas Chinese education center and the overseas Chinese community. They also joined in the Thanksgiving dinner with the students studying abroad, demonstrating the overseas Chinese community’s support for Taiwanese sports and the national delegation. This sets a solid foundation for future Olympic logistical cooperation.
