Taiwanese Woman Saved Elderly Man Who Fainted on the Road, Was Late for Interview But Was Forgiven and Hired

A recent heartwarming incident in Taiwan has garnered attention for its display of kindness and compassion.

Recently, a young graduate from the Department of Fine Arts at National Changhua University of Education, Zhang Ning-en, was on her way to a job interview at a company in Dalai, Taichung. However, her journey took an unexpected turn when she encountered an elderly man collapsing on the roadside. Without hesitation, Zhang immediately dialed 119 to report the emergency. She stayed by the elderly man’s side until the ambulance arrived to take him to the hospital, causing her to arrive late for her interview. Despite the delay, the company still welcomed Zhang to participate in the interview and even inquired if she was interested in joining their team.

According to reports by Central News Agency, on June 27, Zhang Ning-en was traveling from Changhua City to Dalai District in Taichung for a job interview. While passing through Wuri District in Taichung, she noticed an elderly man lying on the pavement surrounded by scattered items. Zhang promptly called emergency services and firefighters arrived at the scene to arrange for the elderly man to receive medical attention.

In an interview with the media on July 3, Zhang shared that she had waited for the ambulance to arrive as the elderly man seemed disoriented. She informed the company via text message about the situation, explaining that she would be late for the interview due to assisting the elderly man. Remarkably, the company made an exception by allowing her to proceed with the interview process, eventually offering her the job. Zhang expressed her gratitude for the company’s understanding, although she is still contemplating whether to accept the position due to the location in Dalai.

Reports from Sanlih News Network indicated that the Wuri Police Station in Taichung received a report of an elderly man found unconscious near Ziqiao Bridge. Zhang, who identified herself with the surname Zhang, was in a rush to Dalai District for an interview in graphic design after setting off from Changhua on her motorcycle. Upon encountering the elderly man on the street, she immediately called emergency services, prioritizing his well-being over her interview. She stayed until the ambulance arrived, ensuring the elderly man was taken care of. Subsequently, the elderly man was hospitalized with a high fever but fortunately did not suffer any serious consequences.

The daughter of the elderly man expressed her gratitude, revealing that her 79-year-old father had left home on his bicycle unnoticed during midday. It was only after receiving the police’s notification that the family discovered he had gone missing and collapsed due to heatstroke. She mentioned that her father’s memory had deteriorated over the years, often recalling hardships from decades earlier, which prompted his actions of collecting recyclables along the way. The family extended their appreciation to the police and the kind-hearted woman who reported the incident. Zhang Ning-en’s compassionate act received praise from the authorities, with the police commending her as “beautiful on the outside and even more so in the heart.”
